Saw a Springfield 1898 today.

It had been "sporterized". Dang shame. Always thought they looked kinda cool w/ the on the side magazine. The metal was in nice shape. It was in a Monte Carlo stock w/ a plastic trigger guard. (Blasphemy!) 30/40 Krag caliber. On consignment for $500.

Should have asked the guy how long he had it there. But I'm saving for a 1903 or 03A model. I already have everything I need to load 30-06.

I know so little about C&R, that never occured to me. But now that I think about it, My Enfield sights are pretty hard to see!

Lots of vision challenged guys start getting rid of the rifles they can't shoot well due to site issues -

Bruce, get a No.4 Mk.1 Enfield. The sights are why I bought one over an SMLE, though I kinda want an SMLE too--even if I am a Mosin guy.
