I recently inherited an 1898 Springfield rifle aka Krag. The rifle was first giving to my cousin and then he gave it to me. When i received the rifle i was told it was appraised for 3k, but lets just say my cousins intelligence is questionable. Based off the picture can anyone give me any information. Looks like its missing hand guard. And also a butt stock extension was added for my grandfathers LOP.

It looks like it's been modified with a shortened carbine forend and what looks like a target rear sight. I've seen pristine carbines on Gunbroker and Auction Arms go for around $1400."If a man hasn't found something worth dying for, he isn't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Benjamin Franklin
"You have to be willing to swing your nuts like a deadblow hammer to put these jackasses in their place." - AJAX22
"The best defense against usurpatory government is an assertive citizenry." - William F Buckley Jr.

Sadly, It looks like this rifle has been "bubba'd".
That link seems to have a proper 1898 Carbine on display.

I would repeat your question on the C&R forum to see if the gentlemen there could get you better info if they do not see this thread.Comment
