GCA and the CMP

If I were to join the GCA and have my membership transmitted to the CMP, do I still need to provide a copy of the membership card when ordering from the CMP? If not, how do I let the CMP know to check their list to verify my GCA membership?

When you fill out the purchase form you make comment that you belong to GCA in the appropriate field.

Once a year, I scan/photocopy my GCA membership card and send it along with the order to go into my file. For the next order, if it hasn't expired I just put the comment on the purchase form that lists my club membership and membership number.

If you join the GCA now be warned that you will only get a few months membership for your $25.00 as they run from Sept -Sept
I recommend the M1 Collectors Club. You get a full year memebership for $14.00 and runs a full year from the day you join

I'm just wondering if for a first order I should wait to get my physical membership card and photocopy it or just assume that the GCA has sent me over in their weekly upload. I would hate to have my order held up unneccessarily. But I guess the weekly upload would have little point from an ordering standpoint if the CMP still wanted the card.

If you checked the box on the GCA forum to submit info to CMP you are fine.
On the CMP order form write" GCA membership applied for.
The membership info will get to them before they have a chance to even open your order

Correct it's a separate req. But my ccw would take care of that part

Also it's markmanship or other firearm related activity. A Handgun Safety Certificate works for them.

It's not a course, it's the little HSC card they give you after you take the multiple choice test that proves you're not a total moron (costs $25). It's possible to do the test as part of a larger class but it's not a requirement - you can go into any gun shop and just take the test assuming they're not out of cards (which can happen).

I do believe they're also accept a NRA basic safety course, so that works too, but you can do that without getting a HSC card. I did one back in the day and some people took the test, some didn't.

No, they have a hook up with GCA.
It is good to ask for your membership number from GCA ahead of time to put it in your order, but you don't need the actual card.

At some point they really loosened up that requirement but Orest has discussed it on the CMP forums a number of times and it's clear they just want to see some kind of prior interest in firearms. Maybe they just want to make it hard for dealers to sign up their cousins to evade limits, who knows. Maybe it's because it's impossible to enforce - you could take any recent match results, change one of the names to yours, and send it in. I know what I sent them was just a printout of a webpage. They could verify I've competed since they have my USPSA # but I'm sure they never bothered.
