Oops - never got renewal - do I start over?

I have an 03 FFL - just realized it expired Sept 1. Never got a renewal notice. Do I have to start all over?

I cannot find the renwal ap on the ATF website?

Yes, you have to start over. But the application for a Type 03 FFL is less intrusive than the form to renew your FFL.

or who has not timely submitted an application for renewal of the previous license issued under this part, shall file an application, ATF Form 7CR (Curios and Relics), with ATF in accordance with the instructions on the form.

Mine was going to expire in March 2007. I got the renewal notice in December 2006. Sent it in that month and got the renewed license in 2 weeks.

They're supposed to send you the renewal form ahead of time. You'll want to call the ATF so you can get your license active again. The cost of a new license and a renewal are the same. As far as anyone accepting your current license now is questionable.

You start over. Guess how I know? Missed my renewal by 1 day....

The good thing? You get to start a new bound book with your new license.

Not only a new bound book, but you can destroy the old one and unless you sell one of those "previously owned" rifles as an 03 holder, there is no record keeping requirement for them anymore.

Yup! And you can destroy your previous bound book too.

That's only for 01FFLs and even then when they close their business the records go back to the ATF. That "20 year" rule is for businesses that have been around for a long while and essentially says they don't have to keep records older than 20 years old. It's poorly written, but that's what it's all about.
