My Dad is thinking of selling his M91 7.35 Carcano with a bunch of ammo. Anybody interested?

it's actually not that rare. many of those rifles were sent to Finland

Actually MOST Italian Model 1938TS short rifles are SA (Finnish Army) marked; not rare at all. The Italians decided that changing calibers in the middle of a war wasn't a great idea and sold most of their TS 7.35s to the Finns, who used them for reserve and support troops. Most didn't even get issued.

The true carbines in 7.35mm ARE somewhat scarce; most will be in 6.5mm. They will have a shorter barrel and forestock and a folding bayonet. Used by cavalry and military police (Carabinieri) mainly.

The SA marked guns are the short rifle the Italians issued to "Special Troops" (TS = Truppi Speciale) such as artillerymen, bicycle troops, combat engineers, signallers, etc. Some (not the SA-marked) may have been issued to Alpini (mountain troops) and special assault units, but not in 7.35mm.

Nice part about that (Italian) ammo is the berdan primers are smaller than .210 so they can be converted to large rifle primers. Note: I did not say "easily converted".
The 7.35 is a nice shooting cartridge, about like a 30/30 but It requires .299 bullets - not available at walmart or the crossroads gun shop.
However lyman mould 300136 produces a bullet near duplicating the military fmj in weight and contour.

Just bought one of the Finn Carcanos in almost pristine condition. I collect variations of bolt rifles and I try to find pristine or unissued examples. I am not interested in the beat up and dented stuff with the customary accompanied story along the lines that "A lot of people don't know this, but. . .General Patton dented the stock when he fell off his tank drunk after the battle of . . . blah, blah." which most of the time is bogus. I just want nice shooters in as close to the condition they were issued in as I can find.

But I digress.

The 7.35 x 51 components are available from Buffalo Arms or Grafs. The bullets are .300 and the casings can either be bought or fireformed from 6.5 Carcano brass if you know what you're doing. The same enbloc clips work for either caliber. Dies are available from Lee. You can order the trimmer stud from Lee through their custom shop or use a 6.5 Carcano and sleeve it with some tubing.

The Finn Carcanos, although quite common, have an interesting history politically tied into the Winter War and the aftermath of WW2. Decent shooters, most in fairly good to excellent shape, and a good example of the Carcano action.

I believe Simo Hayha used such a Carcano for some time, actually. At least it looks like the gun in the picture where he's on the snow with his face covered with a ski mask.
