    M39 with 8mm import mark

I recently received another M39 and upon inspection, I noticed that this one has the following stamp as part of the import markings:
    98/22 8mm CZECHO

I've never seen that on any of the Mosins I've had nor have I heard of them being converted to 8mm. I'm going to assume that this was just a mistake on the part of whoever stamped it as this one definitely has the standard 7.62 bolt head on it and it chambers 7.62x54r dummy rounds perfectly. I don't have any 8mm dummies handy to try, but I highly doubt they'd fit or work with this bolt.

Just in case, am I missing something here?

    Thanks!

Maybe they mistook it for the Czech 98/22 Mauser

This makes your M39 worth a fortune.

The rim and case diameter of a 8x56r that a M95 Steyr shoots is the same as a 7.62x54r. I have some brass for my M95 that was 7.62x54 and fired in the M95 to "force form" the neck to the same shape as the 8x56.

When I slip a 7.62 bullet into the end of the 8mm barrel it will slide in and wiggle a little.

It's in 7.62x54r. The importer made a mistake when it was import marked, I've seen pictures of a few mis-marked this way.

Excellent thought. I happened to have a pulled x54 bullet and, as expected, it's nice and tight in the muzzle.

                Thanks!

Interesting, I hadn't heard of doing that for the M95, but I hadn't considered loading for it so I never needed brass.

As a side note, I checked the same bullet as above in my M95 and it would have dropped freely through if I had let it go, so there is no way my M39 is 8mm. Problem solved.
