    M1A Extractor Replacement

Not sure where to best put this, since it's the same as the Garand I suppose here will work ....

My fairly new Springfield M1A is consistently not extracting - can't get through a single magazine without a failure & today I gave up after 3 in a row. It's always been a bit of a problem and I figure step one will be to replace the extractor and extractor spring. First, is there any brand of replacement extractor that is "grabby as hell" and certain to work? Second, can anyone give me or point me to a "how to" on replacement? I understand it's a bit of a pain, I've heard of the "30-06" method - I know the basics of it but not all.

USGI with the same spring and ejector. You can tune the ejector spring to your liking. The butt trap toll does it in three seconds on or off.
    WTS As new M47 Madsen 3006 w/bayonet.
    WTS NIB Mosin 91/59
I will deliver or ship, details to be arranged with buyer.

Where do I get USGI - on line vendor?

Is the Beretta BM59 a good choice?

I got the thing off pretty easily, took an old 30.06 case head and set it in the bolt face, turned down a C-clamp on top of it & tapped the extractor out from below. The extractor edge is slanted up a bit and I can see why it didn't work - have to say, I'm batting only 500 with Springfield products. Have bought 6 of their guns, 3 didn't work or were sent back right off the bat.

I assume a Garand extractor, spring & detent will work fine?

BTW, what is a butt trap toll?

        For me, I use a 45acp case and a c-clamp.

Garand extractor would have to be modified and then they dont always work. Use a M14 part

Just so happens I'm an M1A armorer. I'd be happy to do it for you, I'm in the Solana Beach area.

There's a fellow on EBay selling new PB extractors for $8.99. I bought two and the difference between the Springfield and these is night & day. It was easy to replace, once you know how the thing works it's easy as hell, did it by hand to reassemble.
