    Egyptian FN-49 Question

I'm hoping you geniuses here can help me with this question. I got an Egyptian FN49 in 8mm on Saturday, and I'm trying to figure out how much work I can do on it. If it's close to original, then the answer will be "zero". The rifle is a Century import, but I'm 90% sure it's not a Century build. The first reason for saying that is because the stock is a dark walnut, and the original brass buttplate is in place.
My question for you guys, however, is this: Did the Egyptian '49s have laquered stocks? Mine does. If that is original then I'll leave it, but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any others like it. I'd appreciate any input you guys can offer up on this. I don't want to remove any finishes that are original.
I'm at work right now but I'll take pics and post them tonight. It's a great shooter, and it got quite the workout on Sunday.

Oh, and just in case anyone is wondering why I bought a rifle with so many unknowns...? $450!!! with a bayonet!

All the FNs I have seen had oil finished stocks.

$450 with bayonet is a very good price. I have an excellent one with an unissued bayonet too.

thanks for the heads-up and the links! I'll definitely check them out and hopefully get a definitive answer. I'll keep it as-is if that finish is correct, but I definitely prefer the satin look.

Looks liek your stock has been lightly sanded and lacquered- no big deal.

If the numbers match, and the gun is Century, it's probably not a rebuild.
