rrgh.. is it safe to fire 30.06 rounds out of this barrel if the 7.62 insert was removed?

The inserts used by the Navy were fire-formed into a modified chamber. There were some annular rings cut behind the 30-06 shoulder that the insert was upset into by firing the first round. They still came loose and the practice was scrapped. There may have been some commercial attempt at this as well, with or without the modded chamber.

Finding the manuals, getting the parts, determining their origin and vintage, finish reaming the chamber, re-finishing the stock, and final assembly"

An excellent site for anyone thinking about building an M-1 from parts.

If they have any, the CMP is by far your best bet.

I don't think Winchester made any issue 7.62mm barrels.

Sad to see but that barrel looks like it's been reefed on by a large pipe wrench at some point in its lifetime.

FFL's are NOT required to order from CMP.

I have recently seen reference to needing an 03FFL to order from CMP, here on Calguns, which is not true.

However that idea got started is truly too bad. I certainly hope that no Calgunner has been dissuaded from ordering from CMP because of that.

Needing an FFL to order from CMP is BAD information. Not true.

All you need to do is fill out some very simple paper work, get it notarized and send it in with the money. Don' let the requirement that you must be a member of an affiliated organization stop you. It is very easy to join the California Rifle and Pistol Association by mail.

I recently ordered a "correct grade" M-1 from CMP. Total time from order to delivery to my home was 4 weeks. Yes delievered to my home, no need to go through an FFL or any DROS paperwork. This is a federal program. CMP is a federally chartered corporation established by congress.

CMP currently has fully reconditioned M-1 receivers for $195.00 plus shipping. http://www.odcmp.com/

Click on rifle sales and then scroll down to the receivers.

I am also a member of the ca rifle and pistol association. I want the ffl because it fufills the marksmanship requirement.
