    Garand help?

I've been studying the Garand maual by6 Duff for a while now and I'm ready for my next one, but I'm not sure what to offer on this one. He has no asking price. (Family aquaintance) He'd like me to make an offer.
    The receiver is a 1945.
    Trigger Group: 6528890 HRA N
    Bolt: 6528287 HRA
    Barrel: SA 06535448 2 53 A185A
Parts seem to be all mid-50's
Hawkeye shows sharp lands/grooves with tool markings, so it hasn't been lapped.

    Rebuild by a decent gunsmith.

I don't want to mess with him, I just want to offer a fair price. Can anyone help with this?

The thing I worry about with Garands that aren't from the CMP is the possibility of a receiver made from two demilled parts welded together, so-called "rewelds"

Make sure it isn't one of those. The benchmark for Garand prices is the CMP Service Grade, $618 including shipping. I would show the seller the CMP prices and then offer a little more so he knows you aren't low-balling him.
      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Great! Thanks! That's what I needed. No, its not a reweld.
        Thanks again!

its just your run of the mill mixmaster, you can pick one up from the CMP for $600 plus $25 or whatever it is for shipping. So I would offer $650-$700, I think that is fair.

The CMP ones aren't generally as nice looking as that one. But it is a shooter and not a collectible. If the barrel is really good, you could offer maybe $850

Obviously you haven't seen the ones coming out of the CMP lately.
For $850 you get correct/collectors grade metal with a new walnut stock.

I'd offer $800 and see what he says.

Also, do the "Tilt Test" & see if it's passed:

I'll try the tilt test. I'll make an offer by tomorrow.
                    Thanks all!

Some rifles that fail the tilt test still shoot very well.
Dont let that be a deal breaker, shooting the rifle is the real way to tell how it will perform
