    k31 Recoil

I get both PMs and email asking about k31 recoil. Once again, we do not sell to the public at all, but this is the only way I have to show you how to reduce recoil on a k31 if it bothers you.

First, the Buttpad Adaptor. It installs quickly and allows you to use any recoil pad without altering the rifle at all.

Scroll down to bottom of this one for a pictured of it installed.

The second is a clamp on type of Muzzle Brake. This one really works. It can make a day at the range turn a 50 round stiff shoulder day into a 150 round walk in the park.

All of this allows you to concentrate on the rifle, target and your shooting rather than think about the coming recoil.

Graf&Sons and Brownells are probably the best bet for CalGunners (As Latigo said they don't sell directly to the public so the aforementioned distributors are listed) as the other distributors are international and outside of the US. Guisan's Mini-Shop seems to be a great resource but he is in Europe. Hope this post doesn't seem to redundant but I figured this would help those know who were wondering about where to get these products.

What about hand loading and just reducing the charge. I shot some nice hand loads through a K-31, with almost no recoil and the loader told me the rounds were effective for most shooting needs. The other advantage is he claimed he could reload the brass more up to 10x because there was less pressure on it.

That's ok if you're only shooting paper at short range. For long range target shooting, hunting, or steel silhouette matches (where you have to knock the steel silhouette down) you need full power loads.

I don't know about that 10 times more brass life with a lower charge. The brass has to have enough of a charge to expand the brass and seal the chamber to prevent gas blow-by, so how would that differ from a stronger charge in brass life? You do anneal once in a while, right? Like every 5 or six cycles?

We shot steel silhouettes at 100 yards. He claimed you could hunt with his loads. All the major ammo makers are putting out light recoil cartridges. It seems to be balancing act between all the factors that go into meeting most shooters needs.

Most shooting ranges are not equipped to shoot at or near the maximum or effective range of the gp11 ammo. Most hunters harvest game at a max of about 100 yards, some up to 300 yards, and shot placement is more important than the other factors such as hydrostatic shock. The trend towards magnum rounds to harvest medium size game is being reexamined by many hunters.

I've installed the brake and recoil pad on two K31s in the last month. Aside from the godawful mess I made grinding down the pad it was an easy install.

It makes for a very pleasant shooting experience. 60 rounds in a t-shirt, no problem.

It was not ten times more brass life as in a multiple of 10... rather he could reload his once shot brass ten times rather than the usual four or so.

I do not know the details about his recipe, but the gentleman told me that longer brass life was one of the biggest benefits to his method. The rifle had recoil but no hard kick which I imagine would greatly increase accuracy. Also, I imagine it would put less wear on the rifle in the long run.

Maybe I need more coffee this morning. I'm not getting his logic with that one. Full or lighter, that brass still has to fully expand completely sealing the chamber.
What am I not getting? He can go 10 times per case without annealing?

For range shooting I wear a shooting jacket with a pads for the shoulder and elbows. It really helps with recoil and saved my shoulder which is deteriorating from further damage. The recoil brake looks interesting, I will have to give it a try on my scoped K31.

I just use a slip on recoil pad. I keep one in my range bag and put it on whatever metal butted rifle I happen to be shooting.
