questions about a Nagant M1895 revolver

i am thinking of ordering one as soon as i can from J&G sales, and had a few questions

1 can i have it sent to a ffl, and have them transfer it to me like a regular handgun if i dont have a C&R licence, (because i dont have one)?

2 should i get the Tula or Izhevsk manufactured M1895?

Have just a C&R license, assuming you did, would do you no good in this case. As you don't have one, the process is the same. Find a local dealer who will accept the transfer, pay all the fees and wait the 10 days.

If you happened to have a C&R AND a COE, then you could take the gun home from the local dealer the day you did the DROS. Those in combo allow you to skip the 10 day wait on C&R items.

I had 2 and sold one -- they're kind've cool in a "Look at the weird revolver I have!" way ... but they're really pretty boring to shoot.

Just buy one and don't worry who made it which year.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

As far as rarity goes, Tula m1895's are far more common than the Izhevsk ones.

Here's a link to their production numbers:

Yeah, they do. They don't ship OLLs to CA, but they do ship handguns that are on the roster, C&Rs, and non-evil rifles to CA.

To the OP, if you get a C&R license, you can drive to Prescott, buy your C&R gun(s), including C&R handguns, bring it/them to CA, and then you just need to pay $19 per handgun to DOJ to register them. And the trip is worth it, especially if you're buying several guns. You get to pick the guns yourself, aside from everything else. The downside is that you leave with more guns than anticipated.

They will ship to Cali...at least in 2009, they would. Any pistol will have to go through your FFL.

this is true... Izzys are more "rare" but remember this is a nagant pistol we are talking about.

Also true, but there are some variations that go for quite a lot more than your typical refurb.

I agree completely. My comment was directly towards the idea that the OP seemed to be looking for a shooter vs a collectors piece.

Ah. For a shooter the manufacturer doesn't really matter.
