Im thinking about going outside my comfort area and getting a couple BP firearms. I like the look of the old stuff, just cant afford it nor would I want to shoot something so old. This leaves me looking into the repro stuff out there. Ive seen a few revolvers from Italy, whats the word on those? I also think I would like to get something like the Kentucky Long rifle. Anyone have a source for good, affordable repops?

I have a Pietta revolver I bought from Cabela's. I have heard they are the low end of the spectrum, but I really don't have any complaints other than the OE nipples don't hold US caps very well.
A nipple change was all it took to improve the enjoyment factor 200%. I plan to buy a few more revolvers and a long gun or two. Maybe a Ruger Old Army, although they are a bit pricey.Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.Comment

Great links just what I was looking for. Now do these firearms use standard BP, patches, and balls that can be bought at BPS?
Also, I know the long gun can be shipped right to my house but can the BP revolvers?sigpic

The majority of shooting components are standardized and available from many sources. I have had difficulty locating genuine black powder in this area, but there are substitutes available. Powder is available via mail order as well.
Yes, the revolvers ship to your door via UPS/FedEx. No FFL, certificate or registration is required.Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.Comment

flintlock rifles

With Pedersoli you get a generic looking rifle in walnut stock. The rifles and kits from the 2 above you can get repros of individual authentic rifles or characteristic of certain makers like Beck or Vernor and usually stocked in curly maple according to your preference. (maple is graded by how tight and even the stripes are). Kits are 500-1000 depending on maple and barrel (strait or swamped). Also for flintlocks, the BP substitutes dont really work.Comment
