    1858 surprise during renovations

    saw this article and thought I'd pass it along. I don't know anything about this particular revolver but thought it was an interesting find.

      Nice find.
      The only things I have found at my homestead are a rusty old rifle magazine and some old brass buried in the dirt.
      Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

        Reminds me of a revolver my buddy's dad pulled out of a barn in mountain ranch CA. It was disassembled, wrapped in cloth and soaked in bear grease. I'm not too hip on old colts, but this one was octagon barrel, silver (not blue) finish. And yes had a couple notches on the grips. If that gold rush gun could talk! I wonder how many more are out there?

          Interesting. Wonder if you could access (an arm at least) the soffits from in the attic or used to be able to before an addition.
          My Arts and Crafts home built in 1922 allows this. would make a good hiding spot as long as you remembered it's there.
