    M-1 muzzle wear question

While that might work for some rifles, the problem is the long taper that often occurs with MW. As well as the fact that MW often causes out of round(oval) wear in the muzzle. I have recrownd a couple of muzzles, and havn't taken too much off, but usually didn't change the reading by more than a .1 - .2 the MW. But then I try not to take too much off the muzzle. Taking too much off the muzzle could(COULD) possibly affect functioning. As the bullet leaves the barrel too soon, so that the pressure drops off before the op rod has received a strong enough shove to work it.
Having said that, I wouldn't worry about it, unless the MW is greater than a 4. Many Garands shoot well with higher readings than that.

And you can always get it rebarreled later if it gets too bad. There are still many, many companies out there that make new M1 barrels. Not to mention that milsurp barrels come up fairly often.

You can only cut the end of a barrel off so much and recrown before it may affect function as it is a Gas operated rifle.
Buy atleast a Service Grade then you dont have to worry about Muzzle, Throat wear

          +1

Get the Service Grade. You will not shoot out the barrel or erode the throat in your lifetime. Most of the Greek returns are in great shape.
