If you qualify, CMP ships it directly to you, even if you do not hold any FFL.

If you're really concerned about the whole name on the check thing, why don't you just email CMP customer service? Pretty sure it won't be an issue, but they're always more than willing to answer questions and they should have a reply for you in about a day.

CMP doesn't care about the name on the check ..........$$$$ are all the same to them.

If this is your first time ordering then yes you must have it notarized. Once you get it done I believe it is valid for 1 year.

Why not make it real simple and pay $0.85 to get a postal money order.
You fill out payee, you fill out payor. No third party/straw man questions, worries, etc.

What's another $1.00 when you're going to spend your life savings at the CMP down the line?

As for notary. Yes you have to have that one page notarized. The CMP is selling you a rifle in the mail and doing the NICS (or is it NCIS) check based on a bunch of paperwork. It's not unreasonable to have someone attest to the fact that the name they're checking is YOU.

+1 on the USPS MO. Thats how I did mine. That way the money is gone and your not waiting for a credit/debit card hit that may take 60+ days. Thats how long it took for me to get my Garand just a few months ago.

The notarization is good for 3 years.
