Well jgsales had them for 215 shipped for good condition they have very good with matching bayonet for 300. So I figure 250 give or take is a decent price.

Really nice all matching with walnut stock could go for $300. Beech stocks tend to go for a little less. If the bluing is less than pristine then you'll be down in the mid $200's.

Still one of the best C&R values, incredible rifles.

        seconded froman.

i got both of mine, basically perfect, about 18mos ago for just north of 300. they seem to be a bit less now, but 300ish should be about right for a good one.

pics of mine (and a lot of other good ones) here:

How can you tell if you got real walnut? Also, have you ever seen one with imp. name in pencil? What do you consider a good one?

walnut stocks were discontinued in 1956 in favor of beech. if your rifle is earlier than '46, it should be walnut. plus, beech is yellower and walnut is browner.

They are either walnut or beech, and changed over in 46-47. The stock and handguard are dated with Roman numerals. If you are old enough, find one from your birth year. Otherwise they are all pretty much the same............good or great. (Except for 1933 1934 which had different receiver metallurgy, supposedly. Good bore, pretty stock, tag or not, not a lot of variation. I used to have a bunch, have one left...birth year.

YOu can hardly see the importers name. It written in electric pencil ( i guess.) really small.

Also , as I said, when I tak eoff the butt plate , the wood under there is VERY light , not like the whole stock. Refinished?

i think your sling may be on incorrectly? looks like a lot of slack in it, and are you missing the rear clip?

everything is there. Its a 1948. What kind of stock is it ? No numbers on the stock. Just a small shield on the side.

I ran into the same problem of trying to figure it out a while back. Yours is beech based on the year (under the troop tag imprinted in the wood) and the appearance of the grain.
Here's what I learned for my internet research: beech often has a fish scale type of grain and is also tight/dense in the grain. You can see it behind your trigger and on the thin portion of the butt behind the bolt where you would rest your cheek. It's also been described as wormy in appearance. Walnut has a more spread out grain. Color isn't a reliable distinguishing characteristic IMO since people stain their stocks.
Yours looks pretty good though. If you don't like it though, refinish to your taste.
