    BLO color change

So as to not hijack Orlando's thread on reshaping a Boyd's stock(http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=401325), and the discussing that followed on BLO finishes, I am posting this thread so show color changes.
This rifle stock I picked up from the CMP in June of '06. Stock was cleaned in the dishwasher. Stock was further cleaned with Oxalic acid wood bleach.(from Lowes)It has been finished in only BLO. First pick shows the stock as it looked shortly after it was done. The second photo shows what it looks like today. Finish is probably 10 -12 coats of BLO. A few drops at a time, rubbed until the friction makes it warm.

It looks real good. Some have said that if a stock with BLO is set out in the sun it will darken the color. I never tried it myself

Some walnut stocks look dark because of years of built up dirt, grime and BLO but are actually very light in original color. I have aplied BLO to these and are actually to light for my taste and need a stain.
Others (like yours) when nothing but BLO is applied take on a very rich dark color

i love pretty dark hardwood. thinking of doing this to my argentine mauser sporter since originality doesn't really matter, i just love the look of dark wood, and my stock has some nice grain to it so i think it'd look good with a bunch of BLO. very nice looking rifle, and good work.
