CMP questions?

Okay, let me start by asking: what is it am asking for when I go to the public notary? I am just looking for identification information, and then have them sign a form? I also would like to know what I am to do with the information once once I get it do i send it to a certain address?

On the CMP forms it says where the person doing the notary signs and that person will put there notary number.

If you have all the CMP forms filled out and ready to go, you mail that to the CMP the address should be on there website.

The notary is just verifing you are who you say you are and appeared on this date and time before them. Basically to verify your address and picture id, bring two forms of it.

I agree with how this is stated. The notary is there to confirm the signer and signature since the CMP can not physically see you and your ID because they're getting your info via mail.

On the 2 ID front:
I've only had a notary ask for one form of ID (government issued ID with picture) but having mutliple documents to confirm who the heck you are can not hurt, and if they ask you won't be sent packing. YMMV

I did my old one at the UPS Store on Forest Ave. If you go there she will not fill out or stamp the CMP form, but rather will fill out and stamp what's called a "California Jurat Form" or something like that. It is fairly recent thing for CA. Do not be alarmed, CMP is used to them and will take it without a hitch.

I keep hearing about this Jurat form. Still not sure what it is. They just stamped my form (ink stamp) and that was it. Is that the Jurat, or is it a completely different form? I know a notarization used to be a pressure stamp.

With the jurat. They stamp "see attached" and then they attach a form with all their notary info that you both sign.

Yeah, I haven't done that. I've gotten things notarized at UPS Store and Postal Annex and they both just did the ink stamp.

Another quick question about the CMP thing where do you guys get the marksmanship completion? Can I just drop by a local range and ask someone there to complete it for me?

When I got one notarized he kind of shook his head, said "This bit isn't California approved" and as noted above just stapled on another page and wrote in see attached. Note also you only need the one signature notarized, not all of them (they charge by the signature).

I don't mean to thread jack, but does the cmp notify you when they recieve your paper work? I got around to thinking the other day, what if my letter got lost in the mail, all that info would ruin me if it got into the wrong hands. I mean theres your SSN, a copy of your DL, everything!

I dunno, maybe I'm just trippin over little stuff.
