Howitzer (?) ammo...info needed

My neighbor was a missionary in central africa in the mid '50's.
She bought three cannon/howitzer casings which she uses in
her home as umbrella/cane holders. Can any of you give me any
kind of clue as to what the first one is? Its about 2 1/2 feet tall.

This looks like it's a QF 17 pounder shell... The QF 12/42 definitely helps with that... right size and shape.

Those headstamp markings are British, so that it's a QF 17 pounder shell makes sense.
