    GOEX Black Powder

I'm new to muzzleloaders and I am looking for a local supplier in the San Gabriel/L.A. Area of GOEX or any other brand Black Powder. Any clues?

    Thanks

If you are shooting at Angeles, you can buy it there. They will ONLY sell it to you if you are going to use some of it there, that day.

Walker47 in Anaheim has it. He claimed he was the only person in 4 counties that has it.

ASR is convenient and has fair prices for the region. Like Cannoneer said, you gotta shoot to buy. MBR stocks it too, a couple bucks more than ASR.

I can't find it anywhere around here. Only Triple 7.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

Either order some or find a local reenactor and ask where he gets his from.

They stock Goex and two of the guys there (Dave and Pete) really enjoy shooting black powder so you can start up a conversation with them as well. Funny thing is, first time I asked for black powder, Pete (he's the owner) mentioned that most of the people who buy the black powder from them don't use it for guns. They use it for religious purposes. So it really is "the Holy Black"

Powder in fireworks is not just black powder! Do not try to substitute one for the other.

Pyrodex is for sinners. Using real BP is the only way to get the smell and smoke right!

Can someone tell me more about a SWISS Black Powder, authentic supreme black powder it says, manufactured in Switzerland and distributed by Schuetzen Powder in Texas. Thanks

Some have access issues with the real stuff, which is the present thread topic. Substitutes are easier to find in L.A. That's just stating a fact.
I experienced a longer delayed ignition of blackpowder substitute using flintlock. Dont know why.

Swiss is great stuff, and you get a marginally greater power value per volume.
I use it in some of my antique cartridge double rifles to get them regulating as they did back in the 19th century with the powders available back then - which were marginally more powerful, and which are no longer available.

For your modern muzzle loading guns and rifles, Goex is excellent - and there's no good reason to use anything else.
It's less expensive than Swiss too, and easier to find at your local suppliers.

                      Cheers

Swiss is supposed to be the best stuff around. I've never had the pleasure of playing with it though.

Triple 7 does OK on the smoke, but is lacking the wonderful smell of sulfur.
