    CMP order arrived

My E-store order finally arrived. Ordered 600 rounds of 30-06 and a bayonet on 12/28. They shipped each box of 200 rounds seperately and of course they all arrived on different days, adult signature required.

So, I called Fedex and changed the delivery to hold for pickup on these. The bayonet, they left on my doorstep today.

Very nice one stamped 1942. Looks to have had very little use. Only a couple very small dings near the tip of the blade.

It isn't very sharp. Dumb question time. What do people do with these? I bought it cause I heard it was a good buy and getting rare. I also goes with the Garand I recently got from CMP. Now that I got it, do I sharpen it up?

I can't see me mounting it to the gun for the gun range, though I should probably check out how it attaches.

Just curious what people do with them.

I got an Imperial that was reblued from CMP. I don't have a proper fighting knife a la Kbar or M10, so it's in my SHTF gear. If it's good enough to kill Nazi's, Japanese, North Koreans, and Chicoms, I guess it will do for zombies.

        Okay, okay.

Here's some pics. It's a Oneida, modified according to the receipt.

Looks to be in original condition with a couple of small knicks on the end of the blade. I shot it pretty good with WD-40 to get all the cosmoline off of it.

So, what the heck do I do with my $65 investment?????

It's just another thing to own. Can make a wall plaque for your office. Sell it to someone that likes stuff. Squirrel it way for some event that may never come. So, why did you buy it?

            Don't sharpen it. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=177383
Should I sharpen it or shouldn't I ?that is the question. I have never seen it brought up here before.. does it hurt the value? I have a great sharpener and everyone I have ever seen are blunt edged. thanks Orion (The Hunter Greek Mythology)

            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Okay, that makes sense. I have the tools and experience to put a keen edge on it, but it seems that's not what it is for.

I got it, as they are getting rare and my intent is to pass it down to my 5 year old son along with the rifle. I may just leave him a note to say not to sharpen it.

                  Regards,

I try and get bayos for all my rifles. I just hang them on the wall of the gun locker.

Looks like you got a good one. Interesting repair to the scabbard (the metal tip is added). Not a problem, just part of the bayonet's history.

Sharpening is a bad thing from a collector's perspective. Sharpened bayonets typically make lousy knives. The steel is not the type that will hold an edge. If you want something sharp, buy a knife.

As for what people do with bayonets:

Thanks for the reply. Very intersting. I chose this one as they were modified to be shorter than the original, according to CMP. I decided to jump on it as I heard they were going fast.

Makes me wonder if they didn't take an OEM, long scabbard and cut it shorter and put a fabricated end cap on it to match the shorter blade.

Not rare by any means but are a decent price. You will always be able to make a profit if you would ever need to sell it
