1981 price & availability

Found an add from an Autralian gun shop from 1981 on Google. Not sure what the exchange rate was but those prices look nice ... $290 for an IBM M1 carbine, $450 for a Portuguese AR10, etc. Looks like Jap Mil Surp was easy to come by in that part of the world. I guess now the Australians can't own any semi-autos, so they fantasize about what the New Zealanders can own/shoot like Kalifornians envy AZ and NV. I wish I had kept a couple of old Western Outdoor News gun adds from the early 80's just for laughs, I recall HK91's for $500 or 600, Uzi's and street-sweeper's were a dime a dozen.

If you really want to cry, I had an old book which I gave back to my uncle- the price list for revolvers was in the double digits! I think it dated to the late 50's.

I have the 1952 and 1953 American Rifleman magazines in storage right now but you don't want to know what war surplus guns were selling for then.

That page is like my dream list. My neighbor is 70, and he's been shooting for over 50 years, he's always telling me about how 10 years ago Finn Mosins were 50 bucks, and M1 Garands were 300, and how you could but 3 German kar98k's for 150. Some times I have to just tell him to stop. I don't want to know.
