    M-1 SA Tanker

I was given this M-1 Tanker Mdl made by SA. The Ser # is 2272154. It is NOT a reweld and the BBL is marked SA Genesco, Il 10 64 Y59 and 30 -06

What can anyone tell me about it please. The weapon is in excellent condition with all SA parts.

Definately not a reweld. Barrel looks like it was converted from a military barrel. Genesco is where Springfield Armory is. So, either built by Springfield, or someone used one of their barrels to convert one.
Recevier is a mid WW2 built receiver. Bolt is a post war bolt, which is why it is darker in color. Sights are post war.
Springfield Armory built a Tanker version, but it was based on their receiver which was a casting, and numbered above 7 million.

There is some nice grain on that stock too! Have you shot it yet? I wonder how much the recoil increases from the cut down.

A Genseo, IL part would not be the "real" Springfield armory, as the orginal government run place is found in Springfield, MA.

          Just wanted to mention this.

Exactly what I was going to say. I wish I could remember but I thought I saw a thread on the CMP forums that said there never was an official M1 Tanker.

You know, I was thinking that very thing, but then I had a bought of self doubt.

I love Tankers - mine in 308 runs like a top.

FYI, Tim Shuff does a Tanker he calls a Mini-G but w/ a 16" barrel....

I'll bet the recoil is out of control.....

Don't know about the other tankers, but Schuff puts an adjustable gas plug on his. It is slightly less than a standard garand.
