    Kar98k front sight

Okay, I just got back from the range, and I got really tired of have to compensate at a 100 yards. So I bought a tall front sight from Brownells. I have a few questions though. What should I use to remove the old front sight? And is it soldered in place? And do I have have to solder in the new one? Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lee

It is not soldered in place but it is tight. The cheap way to remove it is with a brass punch and hammer. The best way is with a sight pusher http://forums.gunboards.com/showthre...recommendation

Someone sells Mauser front sight pushers on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/K98-M96-M1902-Ma...item19c31cd26d

Accumounts sells one but it is expensive http://home.comcast.net/~yzhu/accumo...man/German.htm

    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I have one more question; Is there a certain amount I have to file down the new front sight, or will it be zeroed for one hundred yards right off the bat?

It is made oversize so you can file it down. Measure the height of your current blade to get an idea of what height is too short, add several millimeters to that height, then file it down. Take it to the range along with your file and try it out. File it down if you need to and try it again. Once you get it close (but shooting low) make sure you are shooting from at least 100 meters (yards) for the final adjustment. Remember you can always make the blade shorter, but you can't make it taller if you file too much. It would help if you could borrow a rifle rest http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=1...ts/Rifle_Rests
