If one got their first moisin and was instantly hooked and would like to get more collectible 91/30 s. I have a C and R, but what sort of view would the BATF take of getting 5 or 10 from AIM and keeping the rarer versions and selling on the rest? Seems like that might be the best way to maximize odds of getting a rarity.

People do that often. It does look bad if you make deals to sell the other guns beforehand though.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

well, now that your hooked....just or 5 or 10 and keep them. if there is any thing really really rare may be that could be sold for a price, but also may people don't hold mosins in high regard. i sold my tula hex m44 for120 that was the highest offer i got on it. but i really needed the 120 other wise i would not have.Comment

You should be good to go. I think that is a common method used to enhance collections. Here are some answers from ATF about selling:
Q: Does a license as a collector of curio or relic firearms authorize the collector to engage in the business of dealing in curios or relics?
No. A collector’s license only enables the collector to transport, ship, receive, and acquire curios and relics in interstate or foreign commerce, and to make disposition of curios and relics in interstate or foreign commerce, to any other licensee, for the period stated on the license. A collector’s license does not authorize the collector to engage in a business required to be licensed under the Act. Therefore, if the acquisitions and dispositions of curios and relics by a collector brings the collector within the definition of a manufacturer, importer, or dealer, he shall qualify as such. A dealer’s license must be obtained to engage in the business of dealing in any firearms, including curios or relics.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a) and 923(a)(1), 27 CFR 478.41(c)(d)]
Q: What does “engaged in the business” mean?
The term “engaged in the business,” as applicable to a firearms dealer, is defined as a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms.Comment

you had a hex M44 and all you got was $120? I sold a beat up old normal 1944 M44 3-6 months ago for $200. Thinking about selling my last M44 for the same.Comment

AIM wouldn't do it though. They would anywhere else but CA / San Francisco, no matter how much I pointed out that otherwise I'd just order 3 x 3 rifles. they wouldn't accept an order of ten. However I spoke to them about why I wanted to get so many, and what exactly I was lookign for and I ordered two hand picks and got exactly what I wanted. Specifically a pre war with hammer and sickle and laurel stamp and a pre war Tula with the large star. Their customer service is excellent. Both appear to have new barrels as the crowns are absolutely unmarked.Comment
