    awww... nuts (broken M1 carbine)

I took it out to the range for the first time and popped of about 30 rounds and the gun ceased to cycle all together... thinking it was just dirty, I put back in the bag and brought it home.

    Upon disassembly, I discover this

actually, it's the Standard Products that was sitting at Ade's shelf for like a month and a half before I conjured enough money for it [insert buyer's remorse here]

That 12-72 date makes me wonder if that wasn't one of those HERLO (HERCO?? forget which acronin is which right now) that was rejected by the Govt. the barrels that Deans Guns sells are good Carbine barrels. I e-mailed Bill Ricca ( A BIG time Carbine expert) about your bad barrel. I hope to hear from him by Monday.

OK. I just checked my own sources.. and your bad barrel is indeed a HERLO barrel.. bad juju.. your Carbine was a put together rifle Have Deans Guns install one of his new barrels and you will be good to go.

Did you disassemble it before you shot it? That failure seems pretty nasty to happen as the result of 30 rounds.

someone suggested I go see a gunsmith, so I'll be taking it to Ade (after all, I did purchase it through him)

Looking under the piston, it says HC and LCT

so far, I've made no attempt to move it myself :/ I'm new to the carbine and it's not exactly an SKS where all you need is to lift a lever to disassemble

Kap, I did to wipe down the excess grease and make note of the stamp marks on the parts; but I didn't go spotsearching for issues- I wouldn't know one if I saw it either... the blown piston though, is kinda obvious

Sounds like a HERLO to me. The entire lot was rejected by the U s Gov.
