In CA, if you are buying a C&R rifle from a FFL01 dealer, you have to fill in the DROS paperwork and wait 10 days, whether you have a C&R license or not.
Yes, I forgot Big 5 has the 11 day wait - just to be extra safe. It gives you an extra day to calm down if you had intended to purchase a M44 for the purposes of a crime of passion.

Actually the associates say it's better to wait 11 days that way there is no confusion. You can actually go get it after 10 days, but it has to be exactly ten 24 hour periods if you do go. For instance, if you bought the rifle at 12 noon on the 10th you would to wait until 12 noon or later on the 20th to get the rifle. I'm sure you already know this, but if you don't than now you do! haha

As you already have a M44, perhaps you should look at picking up a M38. It is predecessor to the the M44, similiar but without the folding bayonet.
Here's a picture of my $74.00, Big 5, 1944 M38. It is one of my most accurate C&R rifles.

I put one of those bolts on my M44, and it makes the gun so much nicer to shoot. The whole action just feels better! I got mine on ebay and it's not original, but neither was the electro penciled bolt that came on the gun!Dom
