Mexican rifle I.D. help.

I recently met a man at the range who allowed me to shoot his rifle,Due to the fact that he did not speak a lick of english i couldnt ask many questions about it....

At first glance the rifle looked exactly like a Arisaka....

But it had a mexican snake/eagle symbol along with the words=

"fabrique mexico fabarms 1931" or something along those lines...

It was a 7mm cartridge.

Mauser maybe?I liked it and want to get one for myself.What is it?

Spanish Mauser of some sort... there are a number of variants, they're not very expensive, but they're relatively uncommon.

Not sure where you can find one... just look around all the auction sites and C&R sellers, they come up from time to time.

lol I've got 1k of ammo for sitting around in one of my stashes. They can be a bit hard to find but are cheap when they do turn up.

I have never owned a Mauser,but i do own a Arisaka type 99 7.7.I couldnt help but think that these two actions were almost the same....
I notised many similarities between the two.

The Mexican govt made their version of the Mauser in 7mm starting with the M1912 and finishing with the M1954 in .30-06. They also purchased rifles and Carbines from FN and DWM also in 7mm going back to the 1890s. Many of the m1936 rifles were imported into the U.S. in the 50s and the actions turned into lightweight sporters.

Do you want one exactly like the model that you just looked at or are you more just looking to get any one of the Mexican Mauser varieties? What part of the state do you live in?

It could have been a model 1910. Not a Spanish mauser. Spanish Mausers were build with notoriously poor steel, Mexican Mausers are the opposite, the quality of the steel is on par with the Swede. For me, that is the holy grail of Mausers, though I don't know where I could get one for under 700 dollars. Going to Mexico to find one is even more difficult. How was it shooting, did you notice?

I'm Mexican, by herritage (as if the name wasn't a dead givaway) and I would never want to live in Mexico. The place is terrible. I would bet the drug dealers paid off some one in the government to disarm the police. This is just obscene. It almost makes me feel lucky to be in California, I mean, there are some places in the world were even the POLICE can't carry guns.

This particular rifle shot great.Was accurate and fead and extracted smoothly despite being covered in rust.

I go to Mexico a few times a year,but i was always under the impression that guns were illegal there...PERIOD. I would rather find one local.

Old thread I know but the rifle was most likely dated 1913 and was a version of the Japanese Arisaka made for Mexico in 7x57 mauser. They are somewhat uncommon.
