    FUN DAY!

So today I went out shooting with an old buddy (that I havent seen in 20+ years) his son, and my son. We brought my sons little Walther bullpup .22, his AR, my AR and my Mosin. Mind you my buddy isnt really a gun guy so after a little brief on gun safty and muzzle discipline we commence with the fun. First the .22... it is what it is. lol Then the AR's... Great fun and my buddy loved it. Then my baby, the M39. My buddy watched me shoot it and was a little hesitant at first. After a little education of keeping it tight against your shoulder and leaning into it... He absolutely loved it! We had a 1/2" steel pig sillouette at 150 meters or so that was ringing all day long. Now my son really wants a Mosin. I got mine in 91 from Big 5 when they were 125 bucks. I see they've gone up in price a bit. All in all a great day... Hanging out with an old friend and family. It doesnt get much better then this!

Sounds like a good day. Yeah, the Mosin has a little kick to it . You should be able to get a Big 5 Mosin for about the same price nowadays. They are $99 in my towns Big5. You could look into getting a C&R/FFL 03. With the C&R you can get what ever you'd like usually cheaper, nicer and they ship'em in the mail to you

Thanks for the info Stover. I never see any Fin Mosins at Big 5 anymore. Just the Russian stuff. When I picked mine up 20 years ago it was in excellent shape, still is actually. Bluing was in great shape and the bore and rifling superb. Had not not been counter bored. The stock was not original... No cartouche and the joint "fingers" are post '56. Its a '42 VKT though and still in awesome shape. Barrel and receiver match with the bolt stamped to match after the Russian serial # was lined out. I learned an interesting fact on the Mosin page the other day... All M-39 bolts are Russian. Is this indeed a fact?

I believe all Finnish Mosins are Russian rifles, built from captured receivers after WW1 when they were independent from the USSR.
