Maybe it was his son and they had the same name :-)
Mention the Deacons for Defense and Justice and make both left and right wingnuts squirm

I wonder if it's not just an error in the SA list (Legacy, below).

Appears he was a MAJ by 1920 (), a LT COL in 1929 (publication date of his book Textbook of Ordnance and Gunnery), COL around 1935 (The Army Industrial College and Mobilization Planning
      Between the Wars
) and BG in 1941, according to this site. Seems to have retired in 1943 and become Superintendent of Staunton Military Academy.

Army has a Historical Reference Collection with a biography for BG McFarland, but it isn't on line. The Congressional Record, which would have a record of BG McFarland's promotion confirmation, is not on line before 1983, and I'm just not so enthused that a couple of hours with microfilm seems worthwhile.

Have to be careful - there's an 'air power' McFarland, associated with Billy Mitchell, in the WWII time frame, and an intelligence McFarland in the 1960's. I think this guy is the DOB 7 July 1883 McFarland.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
