Garand question

I placed my order for a HRA, Service Grade Special about 3 weeks ago and just got my DBU the other day.

The rifle comes with a new stock.

Question: Does the stock already come with a finish on it, or is it bare wood that I must finish myself?

Can I also assume that other than a quick cleaning and lubrication that the gun is 100% ready to shoot?

Did you get a Service Grade Special like the OP or just a Service Grade?

He ordered a Special that comes with a new walnut stock.

CMP's new grade of M1 Garand. This rifle consists of a new production stock and handguard set with CMP cartouche, a new production barrel and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. See item for details.

HRA collector grade metal in excellent almost new condition. Walnut stocks and handguards and associated hardware are new manufacture. NOT original HRA manufacture.

The pictures I have seen show what looks like a thin oil finish. You can apply more finish if you desire. And yes, it should be pretty much ready to shoot, like a brand-new gun from the store.

You should be fine out of the box. The stock may need some Tung Oil or BLO, that will be up to you.

Yeah, its taking them awhile to wade through what looks like a mad rush at the end of the year.

The e-mail I got said they had sent my order to sales and it would be another 30-60 days before my order ships.

I also have 600 rounds of 30-06 and a bayonet on order and these too are waiting to be processed.

I'm in no rush and don't mind waiting. Heck, I'm sort of enjoying the sweet anticipation!!!!

In the mean time, I'll just have to make due by snatching up the occasional Mosin or stray HAKIM or Mauser that rears its head...

Damn. That is a shame with that two weeks they were averaging before.
I don't mind, I just wish they would charge my credit card so I could pay it off (I am really into managing my finances).
Have they charged you yet? I also have 200 rounds of .30-06 on emblocs in the can on order.

I am going to put my order in next week for a Springfield Service Grade. I guess I will be looking forward to a long wait as well.

Try Waiting 15 Months!

We should not be complaining when it takes a couple of months for the CMP to deliver our Garands. When I bought my SA through the DCM 13 years ago, I waited so long I forgot that I ordered an M1 till 9 months later a long box came in through USPS. My wife who received the registered box signed for it and figure it was mine and threw it in the garage with my other junk and forgot to tell me about it. Six months later I was doing spring cleaning in the garage discovered this long unopened box buried under tons of junk. Opened the box and there she was a Korean War vintage SA M1. So a total of 15 months to receive my Garand.

Be thankful to the Greeks for returning lots of M1 in great condition and to the CMP for doing a great job turning them out.

I like Behr's #600 Scandinavian Tung Oil Finish. I don't think they make it anymore. Google for it. I think there is a similar product that performs the same.
