    Don't rely on Romanian TTC's half-cock safety!!

This is a popular C&R handgun, and I enjoy mine as much as anyone. I have heard that the half-cock safety is safer than the add-on required by import laws....that you could rely on the half-cock safety as much as anything.

I'm here to say that is bogus information! DON'T RELY ON MECHANICAL SAFETIES!!

I discovered this fact while dry-firing my TTC. With a hard enough pull on the trigger, the half-cock safety was defeated and the hammer fell on the firing pin.

I can't upload the video I took (is anyone willing to upload to YouTube for me?), but here's photos of hammer at Half-cock:

And the hammer hitting the firing pin after pulling on the trigger hard enough.

Again... DON'T RELY ON MECHANICAL SAFETIES!!

I think you need to have your pistol repaired.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I deleted my safety. I've been using the half cock with no issues.

I want to remove the added on safety too. Is it safe to shoot with the holes uncovered? Sorry, don't mean to thread-jack.

That's good to know although for me it's not a big deal since I would carry it with no round in chamber anyway unless I'm ready to fire.

Furthermore with something as old as the Tokarev and its safeties; I wouldn't trust them.

Interesting, just tried that with my own TTs (Russian, Polish, Chinese, and Romanian). Was unable to defeat the half cock safety on any of them, even with up to 50 pounds of force (rope+weights as I lift up the gun). I think your pistol needs to be repaired.

I removed the silly safety on my Polish. Supposedly the ones on the Polish Toks are factory, but mine was so loose that everytime I fired the gun it would flip itself back to safe, so I removed that damn thing. Should be safe to fire with unplugged holes. I plugged one side with a rubber eraser :x Yeah, my Tok's ghetto.

I don't think it's broken so much as it's a tolerance (ie a design) issue. It otherwise operates flawlessly. Who knows how many other TTC's, Tokarev's, & etc. are like this. In either case, it doesn't negate the important point I'm trying to stress: Don't rely on mechanical safeties!!

It is good policy to never rely on the safety of any weapon.

The safety on my Type 54 makes the gun go boom. the safety goes right on the "1959" stamped on the side.
