I made a new member thread and was directed here by some of the members. I just recently got married and was allowed a new rifle by the new Mrs! Happily I scoured this forum due to the insane amount of CREDIBLE(yeah its true, there is some on the internet; amazed? me too) information. And being we're newlyweds I had very little funds and with a few clicks and searchs I found out what I wanted, a Russian brunette.
Now the wife wasn't too happy with this until I explained my wordage lol. I cruised over to Big 5 (No C&R or FFL..yet..) and found an amazing 1931 Tula Hex supposed Parade model. Had brass all over it and was in immaculate condition, unfortunately another lucky soul had already purchased it. So I asked what they did have, the unhappy salesmen gave me the third degree assuming I was a mere looky-lou. Finally convincing him to actually perform his sole function at his post he reluctantly brought me 3 Mosin Nagant 91 30 rifles and started to unbox them. As I peeked and caressed the aged wood(dirty, I thought so too) I came across Moses. A 1937 # matching beauty.
I filled out the forms and paid my dues and hurried home to search for more info. On the 9th I picked it up and took her home. After a few minutes of oogling and awe'ing I started to work on the extensive cosmoline removal. A few hours and a 6 pack of Top Shock later I had Moses looking as mighty as ever. Went to ammunitiontogo and purchased a 100rd milsurp can and created my account here.
Today a neighbor had heard via the better half that I had purchased a gun, so he came by to check it out. Turns out he had a few that had burned down in a housefire he managed to save one but had sold all the parts but the stock. Before I go any farther let me reiterate that this is definitely not a permanent modification and I hold this rifle knowing very well its documented history. I decided to make a sporterized stock for when I go to NM to hunt with my brother.
That being said, for a burned stock it came out quite well, and my stock is now safely secured in newspaper, in a box in the attic labeled "Wedding items" so as to keep it safe for years to come. I also purchased another buttstock to polish just to see if it looks good on Moses. Not sure quite yet how I like it. LMK What you think?

Other gun is a Stevens Model 94 20 gauge (Younger brothers)
Stained twice, poly coated 3 times with Zessner Satin finish and hit with 0000 Steel wool
