M1 Garand Reborn

Picked this up a couple months ago cheap on Gunbroker. It was one of the Century imports with a rusted out barrel and worn finish. The only saving grace was that it had a good uncut SA-6 OP Rod and a SA JLG stock that I was able to sell to help finance the restoration.

Here is an example of the finish.


Last Friday (12-31) I sent this sorry worn out Garand to Tim Schufflin and had him repark it and install a 308 barrel. I just got it back this morning (1-7)
I can't believe that he works so fast.
Slapped on a new customized rear sight cover that a I got off a guy on the CMP forums and here it is. My version of the 7.62 Navy Garand

Nice. That is one hell of a quick turnaround! I sent a former CMP Garand to Dean at DGR about 5 months ago and just got it back last week, so you did well getting it done so quickly. Too bad it's been such crappy weather, or I'm sure we'd both be trying them out

BTW, What made you choose the .308 route instead of 30-06? Is .308 cheaper or easier to find?

Surplus 308 is a little cheaper than surplus 30-06 and is easier to find but that really didn't factor into my decision.
I already have several Garands in 30-06 and thought I would try something different, plus I wanted to somewhat replicate a Navy Garand. They were converted to 7.62/308.



Hopefully the weather will be nice on Monday and I'll be able to try her out.

Great looking rifle. Let us know how it shoots. I have an older SA (7/44 marked) Miltech re-work that I couldnt be happier with. It's nice to see outfits that can do great work with short turn around. Good luck.

No spacer. They make them to prevent you from inserting a clip of 30-06, but it is not required to make the rifle function. All you need is a 308 barrel.
