LeMat lever arm bracket is a poor design

I have been having fun with my new LeMat from Cabelas. I only have an 1858 Remington New Model Army to compare it with, and the LeMat mostly comes out second in the ease of loading department. One flaw looks fixable. The lever arm is on the side of the pistol barrel and is held in place by a simple bent strip of metal, which after about 3 or 4 loads needed to be bent back to keep any kind of decent grip on the lever arm. The Remington is held in place by a spring loaded pin and seems much more durable.

It occurs to me that when I went shopping for a LeMat, I found quite a difference in prices and the exact model they claimed to replicate. Does anyone have any other model, and do they hold the lever arm in place differently? Possibly I could order a spare part for some other model to replace my simple strip of metal.

This is what mine looks like. It is on the left side of the barrel just a fraction of an inch ahead of the shotgun barrel muzzle.
