I have kept it clean and dry and the bore is full, bright and shiny.

It's a Lee Enfield No. 5 Mk1 "Jungle Carbine". I cannot tell from the photo whether the barrel has been shortened, or just the cone flash hider has been removed. It also seems to be missing the front and rear sights as well.
Recently, S.O.G. has been selling No.5 barreled receivers for $150, so I would say that was towards the top end of the value, as it's definitely a project gun for someone.
No.5 Mk1 carbines were manufactured from 1944 to 1947, so they are all C&R and can be transferred face-to-face without having to go through a FFL.
Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

Thanks bigthaiboy,
The cone flash hider has most likely been removed as the end of the barrel has a slightly smaller diameter than the rest of the rifle barrel.
I should have restored it 20 years ago when parts seemed more plentiful. I hardly see any parts around for them at all anymore.
It sure has held up well for its age.
