    Difference between m38 & m44

What the heck is the difference between a mosin m38 and a mosin m44? The bayonet? Their both Russian right? I read that a m44 shoots better with the bayo extended. So would that mean that the m38 shoots like a m44 without the bayo extended?

I ask because I am curios and don't own either yet.

    Your Right it's the .....

Bayonet I have the M38, and I've had it three years and have yet to shoot it. The trigger is hard, but other than that the gun is in perfect condition. 79.99 at big five

The M38 is lighter because of no bayonet.

The Russians sighted the M44 with the bayonet extended. With the bayonet folded, the barrel has different forces exerted on it and the point of impact may no longer match point of aim.

They are fun guns to shoot. Some ammo (Olympic) is designed for the longer barrel M91/30 and will produce a super cool fireball that is visible in bright sunlight. The shooter will see the fireball fill up the front sight.

As stated, the only difference between the two carbines is the permanently attached bayonet on the M44. I love my M44, and I think everyone should own one. Well, I guess pretty much everyone does!
