    Big 5 C&R

ok so tonight I go to Big 5 to look at the mosins, I found a nice 1932 Hex Tula and was going to get it but they told me they will not take my C&R and I still have to DROS it and wait 10 days. Then when I questioned this the manager said it is a store policy. Is this right? is this all big 5 or just this store?

Do you also have a COE (Certificate of Eligibility)? You need both a C&R FFL and a COE to skip the 10 day waiting period on C&R firearms acquired from a California dealer. You still have to DROS it, but you get to take it home right away.

That said, I believe most Big 5 managers don't allow the C&R FFL + COE exemption as a matter of store policy. I've read here that some people have been able to convince their local Big 5 to honor the exemption, but chain stores like Big 5 tend to want to keep all transactions as simple as possible. They want to be able to train their employees one way to complete firearms transactions.

I believe your C&R does not apply to any gun dealers in California. It's more for like buying online or FTF. When you go into those dealers, they are required to DROS and you have to wait the 10 days. When you get the rifle, you can transfer it to whomever you want without waiting. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

A C&R FFL combined with a COE applies to purchases from California dealers.

Yes, you can use it to have 50+ year old C&R long guns shipped to you from out of state. You can also use it to buy C&R handguns and C&R long guns of any age FTF while out of state. A C&R FFL doesn't help at all buying from unlicensed Californians FTF within California, because even unlicensed Californians can buy the same things FTF from a private party in California that someone with a C&R FFL can.

No hard feelings from me here as I am still learning the art of C&R. Thanks for pointing these out

            What he said.
You have a C&R AND a Certificate of Eligibility? Cash and carry (still DROS, but no waiting).
You just have a C&R? No cash and carry.

Also, C&R does not effect FTF private party sales as he said. You still have to PPT handguns at a local FFL.

I remember when big 5 sold rifles cash and carry. Both of my mosins came that way. Gosh I hate the new kaliforniastan

Big 5 seems to have some odd store policies. Like an 11-day waiting period instead of 10.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

Yes, they count the next day after the purchase as day 1. Makes no difference! I believe whether it's a one day wait or 30 days wait, if someone is purchasing the rifle/pistol and intending to go buck wild and shoot people they will. This wait time does jack.

Talking about C&R's at Big 5....

I saw 2 M1 Carbines and wanted to look at them. $799...okayyy.
They were pretty well used and one had Hebrew written on the stock in white paint, possibly from Israel?

Anyway, I looked at the bores with my trusty flashlight.
Result, I could barely see any rifling!
If I went to shoot these things, it would be like shooting through a smooth bore. (Not exactly, but you get my point).

So I took a look at the Mosin's and a beat up SKS. Same thing.

I'm glad I'm learning as time goes on.
