I assume by your warning, there are constructive possession issues on destructive devices... I better throw my golf balls away. I may some day own a golf ball launcher.
In California, constructive possession doesn't come into it.

The grenade launcher is illegal, even if you don't have a rifle to mount it on. It's not the combination of the two, it's the grenade launcher itself, so leave it out of state, trash it, whatever.

Stupid laws, but that's what they say.

Search Survivor's SKS Boards in the Yugo and SKS Legal Issues sections. This has been discussed many times there. From what I remember the concensus was, is that it was OK to remove the GL and replace it with a welded muzzle break larger in diameter than the GL so a grenade wouldn't fit over it or cover it up with a welded sleave. These mods supposedly, from what I remember, do not trigger the need for 922(r) compliance. Again, check out Survivor's SKS Boards for more specific info. The guys on that site, like CalGuns, are generally very helpful.

There are no 922(r) issues with removing the grenade launcher from a Yugo M59/66.

If you put a pistol grip or folding stock, then you would have to worry.

I'm a month late, but this is wording taken from the CA DOJ website
Public Notice - Zastava SKS Carbines

Zastava SKS Carbines 59/66 are considered destructive devices in California and therefore may not be purchased, possessed, imported, or kept for sale without a permit.
So ditch the GL and keep the fixed magazine. All is good.

Threaded barrels were a federal issue during the assault weapon ban (as was a bayonet lug), but this ban sunsetted a couple of three years ago, and is no longer an issue. CA definition of an assault rifle does not list threaded barrels or bayonet lugs as "evil' features, so is permissable.
