    my first enfield

    its like my 15th gun but its my first British one.

    no1mk3

    1952

    what else should I be looking for?

    stock matches receiver, cant find any markings on the bolt, dont even know how to get the bolt out,

    I figured out the safety, but got it stuck, seems the firing pin went half way down then the trigger became really stiff and I had to pull it REAL hard to fire the rest of the way, I got this by the afety being half way and then pulling the trigger,

    how many positions does the safety go in?

    any other things, like tricks or tips for this badboy?

    I don't really understand your comments about the safety but as far as the bolt, it is a little strange how they do the release. Pull the bolt back then you have to snap the bolt head up to rotate it up so you can remove it from the receiver. It might take a little force but don't use a tool, just grip it by the side of your finger and pull up.

    Note all the links to the right of that article. The ones titled "Maintenance" should be of particular interest.

      Is it marked "RFI" next to the 1952 marking?

          Bolt removal is pretty easy; bolt back, press bolt realse catch and rotate bolt head up from the 3 o clock position to the the 12, pull bolt out

          Sounds like it was half cocked, it happens and everything locks : pull the rear of the bolt back til it clicks

                    I kinda assumed the numbers were transposed or wrong; only looked at the 1952 and british made;

                    Might be one of the last SMLEs #1 3*, made in Scotland?

                      that would be really cool if it was indeed a SMLE from that late from the UK, like berg said my gut feel would've been dominion/commonwealth...

                            No picture no comment. There are so many Enfield's over the service life of the patterns your going to need pictures. No flash natural lighting use a tri-pod and remote trigger or timer.

                              Are the No1Mk3 1952 markings in the same place on the receiver as those in the picture that Berg posted in post #9 or are they on the opposite side of the receiver?

                              I've heard that some rifles had the original markings scrubbed off of the right side of the receiver for some reason when the rifle went through rearsenal at RFI and they were restamped on the left side of the receiver with No1Mk3 and the last two digits of the year. Does your rifle's forestock have a screw going through it from left to right just in front of the magazine?
