    Gentlemen,

REMEMBER, as of Sept. 1, 1939 WW 2 had started.

Without input from you guys no one learns anything Try to put in some info/question and we can learn more of the M1's History.

Some files have been seen before

Gentlemen I could use some hits

    Thanks again

I find it kind of funny that the Coast Guard only ordered 5 rifles! Was thier budget only $400? haha

i don't think their budget is $400. maybe like $200. it is about 60 years ago!!! i'm kinda surprised that USMC only ordered 400 and the Army gets 9k+.

Thanks Clandy for posting the memos. i alreadys read them, but never posted a response.

Well 5 $80 rifles is $400 so hopefully they aren't overspending!

Ha, now I'm looking forward to seeing someone try and sell me a $2000 "Coast Guard" Garand at the next show. I wonder if it would be possible to try and match up serial numbers to these production schedules? Yeah I know that it might not be very usefull, just an idea, still working on my first cup of coffee, will have to see.

Don't forget.. the Marines were still a stepchild of the Navy.. and at the time of Guadalcanal (8/7/1941). the Marines still were equipped for the most part with 1903 springfields.. the grunts only got Garands through midnight requisitioning or trading/bartering with the Army soldiers that landed a month later....
