What was the C&R selection like at the last Reno gun show?

What was the C&R selection like at the last Reno gun show? Variety? Pricing?

Are there any gun stores in Reno which have a decent selection of C&R arms in their inventory?

And, have you encountered any difficulty in Reno with a dealer not wanting to sell based on your California status?

    Thanks

I have a C & R and picked up a few handguns at the last Reno show. I think it's worth the trip and the show's a pretty good bet that you'll find something. Don't know that I'd do the drive if the show wasn't in town.

I had no problems at the show using the C & R.

What kills me are the tables with C & Rs and the guy isn't selling, just showing. Or they sell to other FFL dealers only. Not too many of those. Most of what was there was for sale.

What is the actual protocol on this? Do you just bring blank or blue ink signed copies of your license?

I take unsigned copies, and then sign it in the presence of the seller. That way if there's any doubt I can whip out the DL and they can compare. Never had anyone question it yet though.

In my experience, having the C&R also goes a long way to aleviate the "Your from CA?" syndrome.

To answer the OP's question. It depends on what you are looking for. You won't find a M44 or 91/30 any cheaper than you could get it from one of the big online vendors, or Big 5 for that matter. But if you're looking for something specific or unique someone probably has it for sale.

Up through the last show of 06 I was going to all 3 shows every year for the last 7-8 years. Things run in cycles it seems. One show will have a lot of Japanese rifles, the next one South American Mausers, the next one Enfields, and so on. There's always some of everything.

If your interests run to something specific, research it first. Find out what things are selling for by checking the online vendors and onlline auction sites. Know what the markings and numbers on a rifle mean so you can tell the real deal from something "close" but common.

Take a bore light to check barrels. I've NEVER had any legit seller tell me I couldn't check out a rifle. I even take a set of field gauges to make sure head space is useable. ALWAYS ask to handle a firearm first, it's plain courtesy and will get you far in the long run if you end up trying to make a deal.

If you make a deal on a C&R, pull out a copy of your license with your cash / checkbook. Some sellers will ask if you're a NV resident. Say "No, but I have an 03FFL license". A person familiar with C&Rs will know what you're talking about, a private seller might not but the "FFL" gets their attention and they'll make the deal anyway.

MAKE SURE you get the FFL license info, or name/address/ID number from the seller for your bound book. You have to enter it in.

PS. There's an ATM machine in the lobby and the casino will cash a check for up to $200 if you need more cash

If the dealer was from out of state, he can only sell C&R firearms and only to licensees. He could sell to a Type 01 dealer or a Type 03 collector.

Federal law doesn't allow dealers to sell firearms outside the state in which they are licensed, except as above. They can take orders for other type sales, but the firearms must be shipped to a licensee from their premesis location.

Can you buy C&R handguns in other state's gun shows if you have a California addressed C&R license?

Yes, so long as it's otherwise legal; i.e. no threaded barrels making it an assault weapon.... One of the great benefits of having a C&R. Just make sure to send in the form and $19 to the DoJ when you return.

J&G sales in Arizona for instance requires that you have an original license on file at their office to buy from them at the gun shows. I believe they have this restriction because it allows them to verify the license with the ATF before filing it and entering you into their system. I saw many people trying to buy from them at the SAR show with license in hand getting turned down.
J&G doesn't verify 03 FFLs since they are not in the eZCheck system. I've bought from them with a certified copy of my FFL. Of course, that was at their Prescott location, not at a gun show.
