Mosin tool myth

So I often see on the internet that one can use the Mosin tool to take off a bayonet. I have tried this several times with a Type 2 bayonet and I have come to the conclusion that this idea pretty much only applies to Type 1 (lockring) bayonets.

A demonstration below. (Sorry for the crappy cell photos)

Here are two examples of Mosin bayonets.



Now, placing the Mosin tool over the Type 2 bayonet to try and get around the lock area and torque the bayonet yields this problem....



...that is, you CAN'T get the tool around the bayonet at all!

Now, taking a look at the Type 1 bayonet, we see this....



The Mosin tool does act as a wrench when properly applied to the lockring of a Type 1 Bayonet.

TLDR version: The idea only holds water for the original bayonets.

What about trying to put the wrench perpendicular (like you have on your 3rd pic) but only around the piece that transitions between the blade and mount?

kinda off topic but where do you get that type one bayonet from? i have an m91 that could use it

Aren't there different versions of the tool? Not sure if the hole is a different size or shape.

dunno man, mine works fine for a wench... among other things, which includes opening bottles and stuff

I've tried it, that actually works. It takes some finagling but yeah, it does work.

When I bought my sniper from RGuns it didn't come with one. Some retired Marine Colonel on gunboards sent me one for free.
I sold the rifle now and I forgot to give the guy (an awesome calgunner, actually) the firing pin protrusion tool.
So now I don't know what to do with it, but I'll probably get a cheap mosin soon.
