    8mm Mauser sight question

I am aware that the sights on the 98k are supposed to zero out @ 300yds.

But at what distance do they initially zero out (before starting the arc that intersects POA)?

It has to be less than 50 yds, no? Because it seems that they like to shoot high at that range anyway.

If you know the weight, velocity, and ballistic coefficient of the bullet, and the angle you are firing at and the height of the sights, you can plug the values into this calculator http://www.handloads.com/calc/
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

This 1940 S/42 K98k zeros at 100 m. And that would be with 196 gr b/t standard military ammo...

What he meant was: what is the other real zero, they are all really set for a 300yard zero, but they have a second zero at closer range on the lowest sight setting.
