Good old fashioned dirty greasy fun

I took the Sharps (Uberti/Pedersolli) out this past weekend for some BPCR shooting.

The bullet is a home-cast 500 grain Lee pointed slug. It is lubed with Lee Alox and also a liberal application of TC Bore Butter prior to chambering.

The load was fairly light (50 grains Black Powder equivalent of Pyrodex).

Results at 100 yards were ok. There is still some work to be done for load development, but this is good enough for ringing steel.

I think I smoked out half the range with Pyrodex smoke and sulphur fumes

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

        Oh, that looks like fun.

What's the purpose of "buttering" up the bullets?

The rifle's meant for a 70 grain load, so going up to that level won't be a problem. Then you can REALLY make some smoke.

I found that a liberal coating of Bore Butter on the bullets helps keep the fouling soft and easy to remove from the rifle, and it seems to help accuracy too.

See, liberal and bullets and rifle can go in the same sentence without the world ending

Thanks Frank for the offer of help. I am Michael though :-)

I will need to see how it shoots at 200 meters. Chabot sound like fun, I have not been there yet.

What distances do you shoot BCPR at Sacramento range?
