    Got my M38 from AIM

Well this is my second C&R purchase and the rifle looks good. Can't wait to shoot it this wednesday at RR&GC. I like the M38, it looks nicer than an M44 or maybe because I always see that bayonet.

It came without any cosmo on the stock..it's nice and clean. The bore is really good (not shiny though) but rifling is good.

    Next is a 91/30

    Here's some pics:

Nice rifle. It's not sticky at all? My K98 from AIM was full of cosmo.

No sign of any cosmo on the stock. The only cosmo I saw was under the front sight hood. I was a bit surprised because like your K98, my K98 was also covered in cosmo (it still has some cosmo up to this day)

Take the metal out of the stock, then you'll find the cosmo...

Or just go shoot it and get it nice and hot. You'll find the grease then.

I love the smell of burning cosmolene in the morning...

I haven't disassembled it yet so I don't know what's underneath it. Will check it tomorrow.

That's what I did to my M44, after I got it, I just cleaned the bore and proceeded to the range and shot the hell out of it. Cosmo all over my hand

I've cleaned the cosmo out of my 91/30 several times... Guess I need to heat the stock and run it out or something. It still bubbles out whenever I get the rifle really hot, and I can smell the stuff burning.

At least it doesn't hurt the wood.

Looks like a sweet rifle. The cosmo is the best part!

                  Is your M38 counterbored?

Looks great! I love the round receiver M-N's. As already mentioned, make sure you disassemble and clean out any cosmo before you shoot it. I forgot to clean one before firing it, and after 20 rounds, I had cosmo running all over the place.

Took the M38 apart just a few minutes ago, and expecting some cosmo to show but to my surprise I didn't see anything, the wood is not even sticky. I guess somebody cleaned it out for me. I did see some specks of rust but nothing major. All in all I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

My M44 came almost cosmo-free as well. I still had a little here and there, but to my surprise their really wasn't much! Glad to hear you didn't have to deal with it!
