My opinion I'd say its in good shape but what I think he meant by chewed up is that bubba got a hold of it and had his way with it. Some guy trying to make it "match" or what ever.

The bore is in good condition. The only reason I asked, I don't want to misrepresent my weapons to my friends, or someone that knows more than I do and look like a fool. I'm really glad to know the truth about them. Most of my friends that don't collect guns, are blown away by them anyway. My son , who is 40, can't wait to get his hands on them. He's always telling me what to buy next.......

Personally I like that gun. As long it is not represented as being original and sold and bought at original prices, it's all good. It's a good looking rifle that one can go and shoot without any concern of wear or breakage. I collect just original k98s, but I have a rc that I 'restored' so that it looks good and feels good to me that I shoot.
Btw, that's not a MM, it's way too good for a MM. Also regarding seeing action based on the sock repair, remember that the stock is not original to that action.Comment

It is possible that it was a reinactor gun, Some of those guys want their rifle to look accurate as possible, but do not want to drag a real bring back through the mud.Comment

What about converting this K98 to a sniper since it's not original ?
Would this be the scope I would want, if not, which one ?

I am by no means anywhere close to an expert on K98 snipers. Very confusing subject. What I do know is if you wanted to be PERIOD correct then that is the wrong scope mount for the rifle you have. LSR mounts werent used until 1944-1945 (correct me if wrong) and were only used on BCD and CE marked rifles (again correct me if wrong).
Also I have been told that the scope that comes with that mount is the wrong scope for what its worth. I have found that you can find real German scopes for less than what they sell that repro for.
From reading your post you sound alot like me, just an average guy who has no interest in making money off the rifles you buy. I would love to have the real deal stuff but lets face it, Im not made of money. I got 2 teenagers and they love to shoot with me.
Another option to save alittle cash is to use older Weaver scopes. They kind of look the part and can be had for much less than a German scope. They are one inch tube however most repro mounts come with spacers.sigpic

I buy the best rifle I can afford, spent too much on some, got a bargain on one or two, but it doesn't matter to me, I just love the hobby and shooting with my son and grandson's on Sat.. I'll let the experts with deeper pockets than mine have the total real ones. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate when the "experts" help me out with what I have.
