    As long as it doesn't close on a FIELD gauge it is safe to fire, even if it closes on a NO GO.
    Revolvers are not pistols

    pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
    Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

      ^^ Truth

      Only the field gauge should be used for milsurp weapons.

      That said, headspace is almost never (99.9%) an issue with Mosin Nagants. They're built with loose tolerances so they would work in the muddy-hell battlefield of WWI.

        Somewhere around here I have an Okie Field gauge. I would mic it for you to give you the exact measurement but I can't find it....I know I put it somewhere safe.
        I'm with Fate though. It's probably fine.

          Yes about headspace: MN's headspace from the rim, so there is rarely any problem there.

          An easy way to assuage your worries about shooting it is just to place your heavy shooting coat over the breech area for the first shot or two.

            Todd from OKIE told me that the MILSPEC dimensions he makes are as follows:

            go = .064
            no-go = .073
            field = .076

            So i am very certain that it will pass because these dimensions are MUCH larger than my SAMMI gauge

            I will keep everyone informed once i get the gauge.
            That's the gauge I have. Watch out though. It's very small. Easy to misplace....

              I have used the field gauge on many Mosin's. None of them has ever failed. Last year, using that information I decided not to go borrow the gauge and shoot a new to me Mosin, I brought a lot of guns to shoot. I was ready to shoot, decided not to. I eventually borrowed the gauge and everything was fine. Better safe than sorry.

                mosin? headspace? oh, you're serious. ok, uh yeah, sure, check it out. it's a MOSIN! not an enfield. never heard of somebody exploding a mosin before, lol. whenever i have concerns about a new(old) rifle, i just tie it to a tire with a string on the trigger and test fire it a few times. check the brass. these are old guns, don't overthink it man.

                  That's right, never overthink safety. Most folks do not have the place to set a mosin up with a string. Try that at the range and you will make friends pretty quickly. I had never heard of pea gravel causing the front end on the barrel of a tank break apart either, until I saw the results of it.
