    Mo.4Mk.1 Enfield

OK.. got my 3rd C&R rifle today!!

Century Arms had a 'good' condition Mo.4Mk.1 for $89.87. So I said 'what the heck' and it came today.. not bad... wood was in decent shape with no craks in the wood except for a small chip missing around the trigger guard area. The wood WAS covered in dirt, but cleaned up real nice. I'd day the finish of the metal is about 65%.Harldy any cosmo, but the bore was DIRTY!!! just a slight hint of frosting in the bore but it had DIRT in it.. took a while to get it all our and the bore all nice and clean. The bolt was too badly gunked up... all in all.. It is better than what I expected (I was expecting something worse condition waise. like the Enfields you see at Big5) Now to find ammo...I will not shoot the Pakistani amo at all.. I guess I might try the Wolf ammo....A buddy of mine who has a few of these rifles says the HXP Greek ammo is great stuff but it has all but dried up.. Does anyone have any experience with the Privi Partisan (SP??) ammo? It is a tad bit more expensive than the Wolf.

PP ammo is high quality stuff. For purity's sake you should remove the Turk added piling bar on the upper band. It isn't original to the Lee Enfield. Nice rifle at a great price!

What do I use in place of it as it will leave a gap.. or do I just remove it and leave the gap?

Prvi is pretty good ammo and the cases that I de-primed show decently centered flash holes. I tried the 180 gr. SPBT ammo and it groups pretty decent at 100 yards. I wasn't really trying, just having fun plinking after work.

I want to try The Mad Minute one of these days.

Looks like you got a good deal on an awesome rifle. My next C&R rifle is going to be a No.4 Mk.1. I just have to find a nice one at a good price!

I love to see neglected c&r's come to life once they become the property of somebody who cares!

The gap is ok. Just make sure the band is tight otherwise the handguard will work its way forward and butt up against the foresight guard which will cause accuracy problems.

One thing I can say is I was impressed with the mild recoil from my Mo.4Mk.1. I have has shoulder problems lately and this was a breeze to shoot. Since you have your C&R look at Graf and Sons for a good price on this ammo. If you find cheaper let us know please!

You can easily replace the flip rear sight with a micrometer peep rear sight. Numrich has them (I got mine there), but they're actually for the No5 so only graduated to 800 meters. Takes about 5 minutes to install.

If yours shoots high or low then you need to replace the front sight blade. The blades themselves are all the same height, it's the base of the blade that's thcker (higher) or thinner (shorter).

How much would you be willing to pay for an unopened case og HXP .303?

The Enfields respond quite well to handloading, but can be hard on the brass. The chambers themselves tend to be on the "large" side for military reliability, and the brass stretches accordingly. One way around that is to fire virgin brass with a light load, and then neck size only from there out.

Pthfndr, don't tempt me on that case of Pyrkal!

HPS has always been the bling type. He'll probably go for broke and pony up for a PH5C.

You mean this nice, shiny, hard to find stuff?

Let me check around and see what it's going for. Or maybe we can work out a trade for HXP 30-06. I'm down to just a couple hundred rounds or less of LC 30-06.
